Dr_Laura_Kupperman-Caron_130x170Dr. Laura Kupperman-Caron completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Miami and earned a Master’s and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University. During graduate school, she completed clinical rotations at Broward Health Medical Center and the Miami VA Hospital. Dr. Kupperman-Caron went on to complete a clinical internship and post-doctoral residency at the Miami VA Hospital with a specialization in clinical health psychology. She provided health behavior interventions to address insomnia, diabetes management, moderate alcohol use, and chronic pain. Presently, Dr. Kupperman-Caron is employed at the Miami VA Hospital as a Staff Psychologist and offers a wide range of clinical services, including group and individual therapy for veterans diagnosed with posttraumatic stress disorder, major depression, anxiety, adjustment disorder in addition to those suffering from chronic pain and insomnia. She recently received her certification in Cognitive Processing Therapy, which is a short-term therapy focused on the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder. She also delivers both individual and group therapy via tele-mental health. Additionally, Dr. Kupperman-Caron helps mentor clinicians in training at the practicum, internship, and residency levels.

In private practice, Dr. Kupperman-Caron provides individual counseling to adults with a variety of concerns, which may range from recovering from painful life events (e.g., trauma, grief) to improving lifestyle behaviors to achieve a healthy balance. Dr. Kupperman-Caron is experienced in cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal psychotherapy approaches, but views each client as an individual and tailors treatment according to the unique needs and goals of each individual. Through a supportive approach, she assists clients in identifying negative patterns in their lives (e.g., recurring disappointing relationships, frequent low self-evaluations, etc.), recognizing barriers to achieving positive change, and helps in developing skills to maintain gains over time. Skill development may include strengthening one’s assertiveness, managing self-care, and improving stress reduction. She also conducts personality and intellectual assessments for adults, including ADHD evaluations and testing for diagnostic clarification.
